Upgrade to Quick Reply (EditDD) Editor
Posted September 30th 2012, 2:34am
The EditDD quick reply editor has been upgraded. However, it now functions differently, and I wanted to let everyone know how it now works. Please clear your browser cache to activate the upgrade.

You will no longer see EditDD at the bottom of the page. However, you WILL see a "Reply" button in every post. Clicking the "Reply" button will open EditDD in that post. When EditDD is in any mode except "PM", there is a new button in the editor. Clicking the "@" button will insert an @poster: string into the post, where poster is the author of the post where EditDD is located.

You can move EditDD to any post on the page by clicking the "Reply" button for that post. Text you have already typed will remain in the editor. As before, if you click the "Edit" or "PM" buttons, the editor will be cleared.

If you were a member of my Dion Designs board on forumotion, you might remember that the DD-Edit editor on that board worked like the EditDD editor here now does, and it also had the "@" button. I have wanted to add these features here for quite some time, but only recently did I have the time to do so.

If anyone has problems with EditDD, please respond to this topic.

@Jessica: Please clear your browser cache and try again. That should have been in the instructions...sorry!

I tested the new EditDD with Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera, and everything works fine. I don't use Chrome because it routinely sends your browsing history to Google without your knowledge, but I've found that if a script works in Firefox and Opera, it will also work in Chrome.

You're welcome!

There will soon be an upgrade to the "main" editor (in quotes because EditDD is a superior editor) -- an integrated preview which opens as a window in the editor itself, just as it works in EditDD. Since the "main" editor supports polls and attachments, the integrated preview will support those features as well.

Shortly after the feature is added to this board, I will provide the necessary information and files so the membership here can add the integrated preview to their own boards.

There's no need to duplicate effort. The security, internationalization, DBAL, and template engine in phpBB3 are nothing short of outstanding. No other board software comes close. Its user interface and user-based feature set, however, are the worst of all board software solutions -- and even after 3.1 is released, phpBB will still be the worst.

That's why I'm rewriting the phpBB 3.0.x user interface and adding simple features...one step at a time. ;)

The integrated preview feature in the "main" editor has just been completed. The work involved several changes to this board's CSS and system JS files, so please clear your browser cache in order to activate the changes.

The new integrated preview feature has a progress indicator, and a border color change and boldfaced "Return to Editor" button, to better define preview mode. These features have been added to EditDD as well.

I hope you enjoy these enhancements. I plan to offer this feature to members in the near future, so watch for it!

Clicking quote and edit removes the line breaks in the text.
The non-HTML version of the post your outputting in the hidden DIV is missing the line breaks too. Simple nl2br() server side then replace with line breaks again when inserting into the editor.

Works for me. ;)

EDIT: Also looks good in editing mode. Line breaks in the hidden DIVs show properly in View Source as well. I'm not sure where you see a problem...

What happen if I want to post after reading all the content from top to bottom.

1. Go to top and click reply first post.
2. Click Post reply (go to full editor, thats more slow)

You can click the Reply button at the bottom right of any post, and then make your reply.

The Reply button is in every post because it will "attach" itself to the post. When EditDD is "attached" to a post, the @ button will insert @(username): in the post. In addition, if you select text in the post and click the Quote button, a quote is inserted into the post.

@Dion: thanks for the explanation, sorry, it's perfectly explained in the first post.

I like EditDD so much.

Are you planned to release it in any way?

I sold an older phpBB3 version of EditDD for more than two years, but I stopped selling it separately a few months ago. It's now part of a package which includes the Blog and Wall features you'll find on this board.

I still sell EditDD separately for vBulletin.
