Dion you got a bug on the homepage.
Using FF 11.0, no errors.

I see this on the homepage:

Apologies for where this is posted, it was differcult to navigate obviously.

Thing is, I don't see the topic on the right, but they are there, I can hover my mouse over and it will change to cursor when and if I hold the title of links will appear... I just don't see the links. Weird.

I'll look into it, but first...what happens if you click the three buttons on the bottom left? Do the stats and help pages display, or are they blank as well?

Yup blank as well.
I inspected the DOM to look for any opacity errors than can be caused by fadeIn() function on FF, but couldn't see that either.

EDIT: forget what I said if you spotted this before editing.
#ddtopic has the opacity error. I've experienced this error with jQuery's fade animations, and I'm not sure if its an add-on or browser issue.

It seems every now and then my browser doesn't perform timeout's or intervals. Hence causing animations/transitions to fail too, in turn leaving the elements opactiy set to 0.

Thanks for the report! I do suspect it's something in your browser, but I'm not going to take any chances (for now). I removed the fade effect and am now using styles to turn the display back on. I'm going to do some research into this, and if it turns out this is a known jQuery issue, I'll probably stop using fadeIn() and fadeOut()...

No problem. I've heard of other people experiencing the issue as well.

I at first thought it was connected to fadeIn() and fadeOut() as I noticed it using those functions. However, I've narrowed it down to timeouts and intervals after noticing other things breaking every now and then. I tested that this is the problem by just FF "Scratchpadding" simple things with setTimeout and setInterval.
Starting a new browsing session, will set everything back to normal, so I'm still looking for the cause which sets this weird thing off.

I haven't looked but I'm assuming the jQuery animation functions use timeouts or intervals and that's why there part of the same issue.
Let me know what you find. :)

I'm aware of some strange things happening with setInterval(), which is why I don't use it. It would be news to me if setTimeout() had similar problems. Hmm. Time to take a quick look in the jQuery source to see what it uses for fadeIn() and fadeOut().

OK, back :) jQuery uses setTimeout() in a loop for those functions. I'll check the jQuery bug reports later...

I few searches would say its a not common, but not rare issue with the Firebug add-on.

On a side not, postform.bbother is undefined.

Hmm...forgot to remove that line when I replaced the SELECT box in DD-Edit with buttons for the four BBcodes. Thanks for letting me know!

I've never experienced this bug. Perhaps it's because I run Linux? Hoho.
Also, there is a plug-in/modification that modifies the jQuery animations to use CSS transitions, making it much more stable and efficient.

I can't replicate the problem either, but then again, I don't use Firebug. I'll probably restore the fade effects in a few days since it's looking more and more like the problem is both intermittent and Firebug-specific.

I don't want to lose compatibility with IE8/IE9, so using CSS transitions isn't an option. Maybe in a year or two. :P

It does not require transitions to work....it's possible to detect it!

Also, I've got Firebug and no problems.

I've narrowed this problem down to these two conditions:
- Firebug is installed
- There has been an alert, confirm or prompt pop up box whilst on that page.

THEN timeouts and intervals will not work. HENCE jQuery animations will not work.

I was wondering if I would hear back from you after restoring the fade effects on the home/index page. ;) Have you reported this problem to the Firebug developers?

For what it's worth, I stopped using Firebug a couple years ago. Not only did it slow down Firefox to an unacceptable level, it had problems co-existing with Adblock Plus. I now use a combination of DOM Inspector and Phoenix, with Phoenix disabled by default and enabled when needed.

Sorry didn't spot this. I haven't as it seems its been reported.

I like DOM Inspectors Forms and Cookies functionality helpful. I enjoy firebug for the DOM and Net tab though.
Never tried Pheonix, maybe if I grow tired of Firebug and this issue.

I was working on the friend system when I noticed your post. The bug has been fixed.

Actually that bug didn't exist until I added some code a couple hours ago. :P

The link to the inbox in the popup for new PM's leads to a 404 error. Can't remember exactly, I think you were missing the /area51/ directory part out the URL.

I was too lazy to review this entire thread to see if it was already reported, but in Internet Explorer 8, when I visit my Private Messaging Inbox, nothing loads except the Dion Designs background.

Blog profiles in blog replays lead to 404 too.
